Working closely with 4GD from concept to long-term support, we tailor each project around how the space will be used and how technology can enhance realism without distraction. Our technical strategy covers everything from system architecture to final commissioning, aligning every detail with the shared vision.

4GD SmartFacilities can be adapted to any space. It can be scaled to fit everything from small existing facilities, to purpose built individual facilities, or even large scale state-of-the-art smart villages.

Our contribution doesn’t end when the system is handed over. We continue to support 4GD with maintenance, system upgrades, and technology road mapping to ensure that each facility evolves with time. Why was Crestron the best fit for this project?
We developed a custom iOS application that allows users to design and reconfigure facility layouts using movable and configurable walls. The client challenged us to make the Crestron UI dynamically adapt to these user-created layouts.
Working closely with our brand partner Crestron, we built a system where the iOS app sends its layout directly to Crestron. This data is then used to automatically update the Crestron UI and DGE displays, providing real-time facility maps on multiple TV screens for pre- and post-exercise briefings.
This level of custom Crestron programming was made possible through Simpl# Windows, enabling an unprecedented degree of flexibility and performance.
Because the training environment uses movable walls and doors, traditional hardwired devices weren’t an option. To create a realistic and cable-free setup, we implemented Crestron wireless keypads and sensors, allowing users to reposition doors freely. The system can trigger different lighting or sound effects based on door interactions—keeping soldiers on their toes during “room clearing” exercises.
To enhance realism even further, our partner 4GD requested the addition of a subtle electrical crackle effect when lights switch on or off. Achieving this required precise synchronization between light and sound, ensuring low latency and perfect timing with every keypad press.
Finally, we designed the system to support briefing, training, and debriefing sessions simultaneously, delivering a seamless, immersive experience for every stage of the training process.

16 Air Assault Brigade, Colchester, Essex, UK
Colchester was 4GD’s first Level 2 SmartFacility delivery in the UK. Featuring a bespoke structure designed around the footprint of SimWall alongside a customised and intuitive 4GAV UI. Recently upgraded with Level 3 SimStriker targets the facility is our marquee facility in Europe.

Albuquerque was 4GD’s maiden SmartFacility and was delivered in 2018. Adapted around a complex existing structure the facility enables on site urban and immersive mission training. To achieve this 4GAV blended audio, light, smoke and aroma to create a hyper realistic sense of immersion.
